Armidale’s popularity seems to be growing, but what can our region do to help keep up with expected growth?
The latest report by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that the Armidale Dumaresq population has grown by 0.7 percent per cent since 2005 , increasing our population by 3866 residents to 26,005.
In the past Armidale’s population has remained fairly static, and even declined at various stages, so it’s great to see that more and more people are realising how great it is to live in Armidale and are choosing to call our region home.
The only problem with an increased population though, is providing adequate infrastructure and resources for the local community and it will be the Council’s job over the coming years to come up with plans to help accommodate Armidale’s growing numbers.
According to an article in the Armidale Express, the Council does have a number of projects it is currently working on to help determine what Armidale’s future needs will be.
One of the projects is called the Armidale Industrial Land Study which aims to figure out the amount of land that is available and can be used to attract new industries to Armidale as well as help our existing industries to grow.
Overall it is believed that continued growth will bring many benefits to the local community if our region has the capacity to handle a larger population, so here’s looking forward to welcoming many more new neighbours into the Armidale community.
